Tom filming Susan in Canyonlands

IXR's Grissom Films Olympic Medalist DeMattei in Canyonlands

(MOAB, UT Oct. 20, 1997)--Amid the thousands of mountain bikers in Moab last week for the annual fall festival were Olympic Medalist Susan DeMattei and an IXR film crew led by two-time Emmy winner Tom Grissom. Tom used a helmet cam to capture Susan riding the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands National Park. This scenic footage will be used in interactive exercise systems to be made available starting this winter.

Susan DeMattei was the top American mountain biker at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, winning the bronze medal in the first ever Olympic mountain bike race. Now retired, she commentates on mountain bike racing for ESPN and has returned to her roots as a nurse, in Gunnison, Colorado. "We are trying to recreate some of those spiritually good feelings that come from exercising outdoors, in nature. This technology really has alot of potential!" states Susan.

With IXR's patent pending physio-interactive(TM) technology indoor exercisers will get to "power" Susan along the White Rim Trail. As the user speeds up, Susan's legs will literally pedal faster and the video will speed up, propelling the user as far along the White Rim Trail in the video as they would have pedaled on the real trail. Trail sections to ride may be chosen from IXR's Picto-Maps(TM), where a click on a detailed relief map of the "Island in the Sky" area of Canyonlands National Park displays a high-quality still photograph taken by Craig Dillon from that very spot. If users achieve their workout goals, they are rewarded with panoramics from scenic vantage points near the end of the actual rides.

IXR plans to initially make physio-interactive systems available for retro-fitting the stationary bicycles in more exclusive health clubs. To meet with IXR representatives e-mail bewert@exerscape.com or call Bruce Ewert at 801-947-9607.
